Monday, 28 August

4:30 pm–5:30 pm

George R. Brown Convention Center, Ballroom A/B

You’re invited to the opening of IMAGE '23, commencing with a warm welcome from Gretchen Gillis, IMAGE Oversight Committee Chair.

The two-part session, focused on The Future of Geoscience, will feature a Keynote Address from Dr. Jonathan Arthur, Executive Director of the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), followed by a panel discussion including SEG President Ken Tubman, and AAPG President Claudia Hackbarth.

Dr. Arthur’s presentation will illustrate the value of geoscience and geoscientists in the context of solving global challenges and emphasize the importance of sustaining the pillars of our enterprise, which include organizations and societies, K-12 and higher education, workforce, workplace, data analysis and expertise, public understanding, government policy, and continuing to improve diversity, equity and inclusion.

The panel discussion with Presidents Tubman and Hackbarth will extend the conversation and reveal how SEG and AAPG leaders are adapting and dealing with these and other challenges.

This promises to be an engaging and insightful session that you won't want to miss. We look forward to seeing you there!
